UPDATED: Shooting on Arch Street Sunday Night Leaves One Injured

On September 1st at approximately 11:30 p.m. Hamden Police responded to the area of Dixwell Avenue and Arch Street on the report of shots fired. While en route, officers were advised that there was a gunshot victim in the vicinity of Arch Street and Bowen Street. 

Moments later, officers located the 18 year-old New Haven resident, who was suffering from a single bullet wound to the back of the head. Hamden Fire Rescue was summoned to the scene and rendered medical assistance. The victim was transported to Yale-New Haven Hospital for medical treatment. The extent of his injuries is unknown at this time.

Investigation revealed that the victim and several friends were walking northbound on Dixwell Avenue, en route to a party. As they approached a local business, located on Dixwell Avenue, several individuals emerged from an alleyway. After passing the group, several gunshots were fired, one which struck the victim. The victim, who was bleeding profusely from the head, ran eastbound onto Arch Street. His friends promptly contacted emergency services.

In addition to the victim, two motor vehicles suffered damage caused by gunshots.

An 18-year-old was shot in the head Sunday night during an altercation in the area of Arch Street, according to police.

Hamden Police spokesman Capt. Ronald Smith confirmed that there was a shooting and the person was shot in the head, but didn't know what his current condition is. 

More information is expected to be released on the incident shortly, Smith said.
