Spotted by Cops, Man Allegedly Tosses Coke

When police spotted a suspicious vehicle on Dixwell Avenue last week, the drive allegedly threw cocaine out the window.

A New Haven man was arrested last week after he allegedly threw cocaine out his car window after police spotted him on Dixwell Avenue.

Michael Saunders, 47, of 55 Bishop St., New Haven, was charged with possession of narcotics and possession of narcotics with intent to sell.

On Thursday at about 9:45p.m., members of the Hamden Police Department Street Interdiction Team saw a suspicious vehicle traveling on Dixwell Avenue, police spokesman Capt. Ronald Smith said.

"Officers watched the operator, later identified as Michael Saunders, throw several bags of cocaine out of the window," Smith said.

When officers pulled the car over near Morse Street and searched it, they found on Saunders more cocaine, Smith said.

Saunders posted $50,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in court in Meriden.
