State Police Investigating Fatal Crash Involving Hamden Cops

Local police reportedly pursued a motorcyclist, Maurice Adams, who later died following a crash.

An investigation into the death of a 27-year-old man who reportedly was being pursued by Hamden police prior to crashing his motorcycle has been turned over to the Connecticut State Police.

Lt. J. Paul Vance confirmed with Hamden Patch that the state police are now conducting the investigation into the death of Maurice Adams.

Adams crashed his motorcycle at the corner of Dixwell Avenue and Orchard Street in New Haven after he was reportedly being chased by a Hamden police car, The New Haven Independent reported.

Citing witness accounts, both the Independent and NBC Connecticut reported that after Adams crashed the driver of the police car looked at him on the ground and quickly accelerated his vehicle, fleeing the scene.

Hamden police have yet to release a statement or any information on the crash. The Independent interviewed Adams' father, Bruce Corwell, who told the news site that as of Tuesday he has pursued information on the crash but has not received anything from the Hamden department.

Vance said that the state police have not released any facts on the case.

"We have our accident reconstruction team working on the case," Vance told Patch.

He also said any witnesses who may have seen what happened are asked to contact the Connecticut State Police at 860-685-8190."
