Teen Charged in Car Break-Ins

Cars targeted in the area of Mill Rock Road and Winchester Avenue early Wednesday morning, according to police.

 

A New Haven teenager was arrested Wednesday for allegedly breaking into cars in the area of Mill Rock Road and Winchester Avenue.

At about 12:30 a.m. police got a report of someone breaking into motor vehicles, according to spokesman Capt. Ronald Smith.

When officers got there, they found a parked car that had been damaged with a brick, Smith said, and witnesses who told officers that the person responsible had taken off on foot.

A short time later, Officer Scott Jason saw a teen in the driveway of a nearby home who police believe is responsible for the break-ins, Smith said.

The 17 year-old New Haven resident was charged with third-degree burglary, second-degree criminal mischief, two counts of sixth-degree larceny and interfering with a police officer.

He was held in lieu of $1,500 bond and is scheduled to appear in Meriden Superior Court March 20.
