Three Charged with Stealing TVs from Hamden Restaurant

Two New Haven men and one homeless man are accused of taking the flat screen TVs off the wall of the Dixwell Avenue restaurant.

 

Three people -- two from New Haven and one who is apparently homeless -- were arrested Monday after they allegedly tried to steal two flat scren televisions off the wall of a Dixwll Avenue restaurant.

Hamden Police got the report of a burglary at Taste of the City at 940 Dixwell Ave. about 8:30 a.m. Monday morning, according to police spokesman Capt. Ronald Smith.

There, they found that an employee saw two people trying to remove two large flat-screen television sets off the wall, he said, and then take off in a car towards New Haven, where moments later New Haven Police pulled them over on Dorman Street.

Edward Madden, 40, who is apparently homeless, Kamerye Melendez, 46, of 78 Ellsworth Ave., New Haven, and Mathis McBride, 34, of 72 Fifth St., New Haven, all charged with third-degree burglary, conspiracy to commit third-degree burglary, third-degree larceny and conspiracy to commit third-degree larceny.

All were held in lieu of $5,000 bond and are due to appear in Meriden Superior Court on Oct. 5.

Det. Donald Remillard conducted the investigation, Smith said.
