Three New Haven Teens Arrested After Friday Night Altercations

Police kept busy in area of Dixwell Avenue on reports of fights and shots fired.

At about 11:30 p.m. Friday night, Hamden police were summoned to the area of 1349 Dixwell Ave., the site of , on the report of a large crowd.

The club is a sports bar but regularly holds "Under 18 High School Nights" for students.

There, officers saw two people fighting, police spokesman Capt. Ronald Smith said. Sgt. Michael Doherty arrested one of them, Smith said, a 14 year-old New Haven resident who was charged with breach of peace. He is scheduled to appear in court on May 17, Smith said.

Shortly after that, officers saw another fight break out where several people were "punching, kicking and stomping on" another person who was lying in the middle of the street, Smith said.

Off. Mark Sheppard was able to arrest one person for the beating after a foot pursuit, Smith said. The 16-year-old New Haven youth tried several times to assault the arresting officers, he said, and was charged with interfering with a police officer and breach of peace. He is scheduled to appear in court on May 23.

Still after that, police got a report of shots fired in the area of Dixwell Avenue and Lexington Street, Smith said. There, Off. Dennis Putnam arrested a 17-year 0ld New Haven resident who was yelling at officers while walking in the street and refused to move to the sidewalk, Smith said. 

He was charged with breach of peace and unsafe use of the highway when a sidewalk is available. He is scheduled to appear in court on May 17.
