Three people were seriously injured early Sunday morning after the car they were in struck a dump truck on Circular Avenue, according to police.
At about 3:15 a.m. police got the report of the accident on Circular Avenue at Scott Street that involved a Public Works truck, police spokesman Capt. Ronald Smith said.
Officers learned that the car was traveling north on Circular Avenue when it hit the dump truck, which was being used by Public Works crews to remove snow to widen the road, Smith said. Crews worked throughout the weekend removing snow in order to make the roads wider to traffic after the Feb. 8 blizzard left 40" of snow in Hamden.
The Hamden Fire Department extricated the three people from the car, Smith said, and all three were taken to Yale-New Haven Hospital with serious injuries. Their names have not yet been released pending notification of family members.
Police are asking anyone who may have witnessed the accident to contact Officers Michael Romanelli or Gregg Curran of the Hamden Police Department Traffic Division at 203-230-4000.
