Town Man Allegedly Caught Stealing Scrap from Business

The suspect also had heroin on him, according to police.

A Hamden man was arrested Friday afternoon after police allegedly caught him stealing scrap metal from a local business.

At about 2:30 p.m., police got the call reporting a burglary in progress on Sherman Lane, police spokesman Capt. Ronald Smith said.

When he got there, Officer Nicholas D’Angelo saw a pick up truck filled with scrap metal coming towards him, Smith said.

D'Angelo determined that the driver, Robert King, 55, of 3226 Whitney Ave., entered a Sherman Lane business and removed numerous pieces of scrap metal, as well as car batteries, Smith said. Officers also found two wax folds of heroin inside of King’s vehicle, he said.

King was charged with third-degree burglary, possession of narcotics and sixth-degree larceny. He was released after posting a $5,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in Meriden Superior Court Dec. 2.
