Three people were arrested Wednesday for allegedly shoplifting items from several Hamden stores.
At about 6 p.m. Wednesday, police got a report of shoplifting at the Hamden Plaza at 2300 Dixwell Ave., according to Hamden Police spokesman Capt. Ronald Smith.
Immediately after that report came in, Sgt. Michael Doherty saw a motor car trying to flee from the parking lot, Smith said, and he conducted a motor vehicle stop.
Doherty found that two people, Willie Simmons, 48, of 383 Shelton Ave., New Haven and Nathan McCloud, 24, of New York City. allegedly tried to steal three bottles of liquor from Wine Merchants.
Also found in the car was an additional three stolen bottles of liquor from Wine Merchants valued at $166.94, Smith said.
Also in the car, which was operated by Jennifer Stokes, 27, of 17 Ridge Court East, Apt. C7, West Haven, officers found several articles of stolen clothing from at 1225 Dixwell Avenue, at 1869 Dixwell Ave., at 2165 Dixwell Ave. and at 2165 Dixwell Ave. The stolen items were valued at more than $2,000, Smith said.
Simmons, McCloud and Stokes each were charged with third-degree larceny, conspiracy to commit third-degree larceny, organized retail theft and possession of a shoplifting device.
All were held in lieu of $20,000 bond and are scheduled to appear in Meriden Superior Court on June 27.
