Woman Accused of Stealing Gun

Allegedly took it from a relative she lives with, according to police.

A Hamden woman turned herself into police Sunday after learning of a warrant for her arrest alleging she stole a gun from a relative.

Police got the report of the stolen firearm on Nov. 11, according to police spokesman Capt. Ronald Smith. Police responded to a home at 7111 Town Walk Dr. to investigate the report, he said.

There, officers, led by Det. Donald Remillard, learned that the owner of the weapon was claiming that a relative, identified as Carina Garcia, 18, who lives at that address, took the gun, Smith said.

Police obtained the arrest warrant and Garcia turned herself in at Hamden Police Headquarters on Sunday, Smith said. She was charged with Theft of a Firearm and released on a Written Promise to Appear in Meriden Superior Court Jan. 10.
