Coming off a very successful first fundraiser at Laurel View Country Club in June that drew more 150 people, Hamden Mayoral Candidate Robert Anthony’s campaign had their second successful fundraiser at Café Amici on Tuesday, July 30 that once again drawing a large, enthusiastic crowd of supporters.

Dr. Lesley DeNardis, a member of the Hamden Board of Education and Associate Professor of Political Science at Sacred Heart University, rallied supporters emphasizing the need for fiscal responsibility and for a new direction for the Town of Hamden.  DeNardis told the crowd that Anthony has exactly the kind of leadership qualities the town requires at this point in time.

“He is a straight talking, no nonsense, intelligent problem solver that Hamden desperately needs," she said. “Hamden is at a critical crossroads. We are heading down an unsustainable path. Bob Anthony’s platform of fiscal responsibility and sensible government will restore Hamden and get us back on track.”

DeNardis was joined by State Party Chairman Jerry Labriola, and former State Republican Party Chairman Chris Healey, who echoed her concerns about the need for a new direction for Hamden.

Anthony focused his remarks on what he calls the “serious fiscal mismanagement of the town” by past Mayors and Legislative Councils which have caused the town to now have to borrow money to fund the pension plan.

“Hamden clearly needs to change course, and elect someone who will carefully manage the town finances so we don’t arrive in the same place again,” he said.

Anthony noted “Hamden has been controlled by one party rule for too long—Hamden hasn’t had a Republican Mayor since 1999 and the Legislative Council has been under their controlled since 1987. We have seen the outcome of this one party rule: continued fiscal mismanagement and a town that is now on the brink of bankruptcy. We can and will do better.  Hamden voters need to keep the Democrats in check to make sure everyone works for their best interests.”

The Anthony campaign has raised nearly $20,000 during the last two months. “Clearly, Hamden voters have shown they are fed up with the direction the town is heading in, and they want sensible government that does not overspend, and waste their hard earned tax dollars," he said. "Hamden voters will have a clear choice this November.”
