D’Agostino Leads Passage of Bill Clarifying Campaign Contributions

State Representative Michael D’Agostino (D-Hamden) recently led passage of a bill in the House of Representatives that simplifies the ability of families with joint-checking accounts to make political contributions.

HB 6290, An Act Concerning Donations Made from Joint Checking Accounts, now heads to the state Senate for consideration. This is D’Agostino’s first term and this is first bill Rep. D’Agostino has led through House passage.

Currently under Connecticut campaign finance laws, a contribution made via a joint checking account can only be attributed to the person signing the check. The bill shepherded through the House by Representatives by D’Agostino allows both holders of the joint account to contribute via one check simply by including a signed statement from each holder specifying the amount each holder wishes to have allocated to him or her.

“A couple with a joint account or joint credit card can write one check, or make one contribution, using their joint account, rather than having to process separate transactions,” Rep. D’Agostino said.  “The bill received unanimous support in the House and is also supported by the Connecticut Elections Enforcement Commission -- the body charged with ensuring clean elections in Connecticut.
D’Agostino is in his first term serving the 91st House District in Hamden.
