Hamden Library Forgives Fines Next Week

If you have overdue library books, you can return them next week — along with a nonperishable food item — and the fees will be waived.

In celebration of the upcoming Thanksgiving Holiday, the Hamden Public Library announces Fines Forgiveness Days.

From Nov. 12 to 15, all three library locations (Miller Memorial Central Library 2901 Dixwell Ave., Whitneyville Branch, 125 Carleton Street and Brundage Community Branch at 91 Circular Ave.) will forgive fines for each overdue item that is returned accompanied by an item of non-perishable food to be distributed to Hamden families through the Hamden Food Bank.

Janet Perrotti, Circulation Manager, first suggested the library offer this amnesty to patrons, stating that in these tough economic times library users are hard-pressed to pay fines and may be reluctant to return overdue items because of the fines they owe.

There is no limit on the number of items that may be returned or the total amount of fines that will be forgiven; however, Fines Forgiveness will apply only to overdue fines on items that are returned during the three day period. Collection fees and other charges will not be waived.

For further information, call the Miller Library Circulation Department at 203 287-2682.
