House, Senate Dems Select Sharkey, Looney to Lead

The state House of Representatives nominated Hamden's Brendan Sharkey for Speaker Thursday while the state Senate returned Martin Looney to the position of Majority Leader.

As expected, the state House of Representatives nominated Rep. Brendan Sharkey, who represents Hamden in the 88th District, for the role of Speaker of the House Thursday.

That nomination will be voted on in January by the full House, CT News Junkie reported Thursday night. It also nominated Joe Aresimowicz, D-30, as next year’s majority leader.

"I want to congratulate Brendan Sharkey and Joe Aresimowicz on their new leadership positions," Gov. Dannel Malloy said. "From our work to balance the state's finances to the historic Jobs Bill, we've worked together to affect positive changes for state residents.  I look forward to working with them and the entire caucus next year."

The governor likewise congratulated Looney and Sen. Donald Williams, who was again chosen as the senate president.

"I want to congratulate Senators Williams and Looney for being reelected by their colleagues to lead the Senate Democratic Caucus," the governor said. "We've made real progress over the last two years, working together, to create jobs, stabilize our state's finances and fix what's broken in our public schools.

"Senator Looney and Williams have been integral partners in that effort.  I look forward to working with them and the entire caucus in the coming session."

while receiving Staples Rewards does help defray the cost of supplies for the teachers, they areRead More STILL putting cash out of their own pockets! This should not be. But Kudos to the teachers who put their students above their own financial situation. The Town and parents should be footing the costs, not the teachers.
