Mayor to Unveil Budget Next Week

Lots of cutting going on, according to town officials.

Next Thursday Mayor Scott Jackson will present his proposed 2012-13 budget to the Legislative Council, but between now and then there's still a lot of work to do, his Chief Administrative Officer Curt Balzano Leng said Monday.

"We are working on it seven days a week 24 hours a day," Leng told the council at its monthly meeting.

They are now on its 19th cut, Leng said, and there's still more work to be done.

When the administration received the department head's requests, they totalled $25 million more than the current budget, Leng said, which would equal a six mill increase.

But that's not going to happen, Leng assured the council.

"Obviously a six mill increase is not going to be recommended," he said. "This budget is extrodinarily challenging and there is a lot of shaving and cutting and thoughts of reorganization going on."
