More Sidewalk Repairs Planned For Summer

The town's efforts to repair and replace deteriorated sidewalks continues with an infusion of several hundred thousand dollars of funding.

With $200,000 of LOCIP money and another $120,000 in capital funds, the town is going to tackle problem areas that date back to 1994, according to Chief Administrative Officer Curt Balzano Leng.

The town has been focusing on getting sidewalks repaired, but the list of problem spots continues to grow, Leng said.

"Even though we have already done a lot, a lot more has been added," he said. "When people see crews out there working on them, they will call in with new ones."

They will be starting with the spots that have been on the list longest, Leng said. And work there way up.

"We will be doing it chronologically," he said. Last year, $100,000 was sent on repairs in the Church Street area, and this year's focus will be in Whitneyville and southwest Hamden.

"There's been more than nine miles already done," Leng said.

There's three pages of work to be done that is dated pre-2004, Councilman Al Gorman said.

Councilman Tom Rousseau said he would like to see more collaboration between Hamden and North Haven regarding roads the two towns share.
