No Action on Alleged Police Tasering

The Police Commission met for more than two hours Wednesday in executive session to discuss allegations of police brutality leveled against two Hamden Police officers, but when it was over there was no resolution to either case.

The New Haven Register reported Wednesday about the charges that the two officers, William May and Timothy Brown, used excessive force when they tasered Vester Williams during an arrest last September.

Brown's disciplinary hearing will be held at the commission's April meeting.

The commission was supposed to hold May's hearing Wednesday night, but neither May nor his attorney were present. Still, the commission went into executive session around 7:30 p.m. for the purpose of discussing the issue and didn't come out until after 9 p.m.

But when the commission reconvened in public session, no mention of the hearing or the charges was made and the commission adjourned not long after that.

Commission chairman Michael Iezzi, Police Chief Thomas Wydra and Town Attorney Sue Gruen all declined to comment on whether May was discussed or if the matter had been resolved. Iezzi said he didn't know whether it would be addressed at a future meeting.

Williams 25, of 255 Newhall St. was arrested Sept. 19 and charged with possessing less than an ounce of marijuana and interfering with officers, Register reporter Ann DeMatteo reported, and the case was nolled in Meriden Superior Court.

During the arrest, Williams was allegedly tasered seven times, according to the Register report.

Williams did not file a complaint and has not yet filed a lawsuit but when town officials were made aware of the situation they reportedly requested the investigation.
