Romney Takes State; Turnout Low

Voter turnout for Tuesday's Republican presidential primary in Hamden and throughout the state was low as Mitt Romeny took another step towards facing Barak Obama this fall.

 

Mitt Romney easily won Connecticut Republican presidential primary, as well as primaries in Deleware, Pennsylvania and Rhode Island Tuesday.

But the primary generated little interest in Hamden and throughout the state as voter turnout was anemic and traffic at the polls slow throughout the day.

By early evening, poll workers at three town polling locations reported little traffic throughout the day. The polls were open until 8 p.m.

According to the Hartford Courant, Romney has secured 67.5% of the vote for the 96% of districts reporting results as of 10:30 p.m. Those results show the other candidates received the following votes:

  • Ron Paul - 13.4%
  • Newt Gingrich - 10.3%
  • Rick Santorum - 6.9%
