The recent announcement of substantial increases in electricity rates has created a surge in interest in solar. The extension will allow residents to get a free site assessment to determine if their homes are good candidates for solar and provide the opportunity to save significantly on their utility bills.

In addition, financing options now make it possible to install solar with little or no money down. A lease option allows customers to be cash flow positive from as early as the first month they install solar.

The loan and lease options available through Energize CT, the state’s energy initiative offer flexible long-term, affordable financing designed to allow homeowners to undertake almost any measure that reduces a home’s fuel or electricity usage. These financing options are in addition to the significant discounts offered through the Solarize program.

This special town and state-supported program provides group discounts to residents who install solar through C-TEC Solar, the town’s official solar installer. The more residents sign up, the more the price drops, with all participants sharing in the lowest possible price, no matter when they sign up.

Connecticut has some of the highest home energy prices in the country and with the announcement of a significant jump in those rates, a resident using an average of 700 kilowatt-hours per month can expect to see almost $150 increase in their electricity bills annually. The new financing mechanisms can make going solar an especially smart investment to offset these utility price increases. Solarize Hamden has been extended to provide homeowners the opportunity to research these options.

“The Town of Hamden is proud to have been selected to participate in the Solarize CT program shortly after participating in Energize Hamden. Residents can look forward to solar array purchases or leases at substantially-reduced cost,” said Mayor Scott Jackson, “The town, with great assistance by its Energy Use and Climate Change Commission, continues to seek and provide residents with opportunities for reducing energy costs and switching to cleaner energy options.”

Hamden homeowners who are interested in learning more about Solarize and financing options should contact C-TEC Solar at . For general information on the Solarize program including upcoming events, please visit www.SolarizeCT.com/Hamden.

Those interested in participating in Solarize Hamden must have a signed contract by the Feb. 11 deadline.

The Solarize Connecticut program has been made possible through a partnership between the Clean Energy Finance and Investment Authority, SmartPower, the John Merck Fund and the Town of Hamden.
