WHEN: Construction is scheduled to begin at 9 a.m. on Monday, March 14. During the month-long construction process, there will be no parking along the east side of Union Avenue/Route 1, between the train station and the Route 34 overpass.

For approximately 30 days, Union Avenue will be narrowed to one travel lane in each direction between West Water Street and Columbus Avenue. It is anticipated that there will be delays to vehicular traffic as a result of the lane reductions.

It is recommended that those accessing Union Station and its parking facilities use the following alternate routes:

  • From Downtown New Haven and the west, use Church Street South to Union Avenue.
  • From I-91 and I-95, use I-95 Exit 46 to Sargent Drive to Church Street Extension to Union Avenue.
  • Vehicles exiting Route 34 at Exit 1 will be directed to Church Street South.

WHERE:  Union Avenue/Route 1, New Haven, Connecticut between the train station and the Route 34 overpass.

WHY:  Upgrades to the electrical system are required in order to support the new M8 rail cars. This construction is required to complete the necessary system upgrades.
