College Students: How to Spend Your Summer Vacation

Tips from an expert who works with students looking to get a leg up in school and make the most out of their summers.

Below are the top five tips every college student should plan to do and accomplish this summer from Eric Greenberg, Director of Greenberg Educational Group, a top tutoring/educational agency in New York City:

  • Gain industry experience: The #1 goal for every college student this summer is to land an internship. You will build contacts, learn first-hand knowledge and beef up your resume. In today’s business world, several internships are important to landing a great job upon graduation.
  • Find yourself hands on learning opportunities: Landing a coveted internship at a top company can be difficult in today’s very competitive market. If you are unable to, try to shadow someone in your field of choice for a day or even a week. You will learn valuable information about the industry and build important contacts.
  • Become more than just your resume: Manage a blog, freelance for a website or small newspaper, do whatever you can to get a leg up on your competition. Find something professional that relates to the industry you are trying to break into. This will immediately become an important tool outside of your resume.
  • Meet and socialize with people: Your college is bound to have a strong alumni network that you should be tapping into. Network via that pool of alums and connect with people. You will receive advice, be able to ask questions and receive tips about your industry of interest.
  • Be Open: Be open minded and carefully think about different opportunities that will present themselves. Spend your summer and your remaining college time exploring different sides of your industry of choice. Your ideal job might come from nowhere, so be open to different options
