Planet Fitness Owner to Speak at SCSU

The Hamden Chamber of Commerce and Southern Connecticut State University will co-present the first in a leadership series with business visionaries called “From Passion to Profit.”

Mike Katz, ’66, owner/operator of many Planet Fitness Gyms in Connecticut, will be interviewed by former WTNH anchor and current financial advisor with Waddell & Reed, Ted Koppy, Wednesday, Jan. 25, from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., in the Grand Ballroom of the Michael J. Adanti Student Center at Southern. An informal lunch will be served.

The Professional Development Committee of the Hamden Chamber of Commerce wanted to invite a variety of business leaders throughout the year to speak about their journey into success, from taking their passion and turning it into profit.

Katz is our first business visionary who is an active member of the Southern Alumni Association and a generous donor to the Southern Connecticut State University scholarship program, having established the Mike Katz Endowed Football Scholarship Fund in 2004.

He is a former American IFBB (International Federation of Body Builders & Fitness) professional bodybuilder and is famous for his appearance with Arnold Schwarzenegger in the 1977 bodybuilding documentary film, “Pumping Iron.” He qualified for the 1976 Mr. Olympia competition, placing 4th in the heavyweight division. In addition to teaching in the Hamden School System for many years, Katz was a pro football player with the New York Jets.

Admission to the event is $10. Southern is inviting students and faculty as well (complimentary). Call Nancy Dudchik at the Hamden Chamber at 203-288-6431 to reserve seating or email hcc@hamdenchamber.com.
