Hamden High School Distributive Education Clubs of America (DECA) members raised funds and awareness for two veterans’ charities as part of their 2012-13 Community Service Project.
Several fundraising events were held, with proceeds of more than $1,700 to benefit two veterans organizations: American Warrior, which organizes “Day of Honor” trips to send WWII Veterans who have not seen the WWII Memorial to Washington, D.C., and the Fisher House CT, a “home away from home” to provide shelter and support for military families of veterans while facing medical crisis and undergoing treatment of which plans are underway to build on the campus of the Veterans Affairs Hospital in West Haven.
During the past several years, Hamden American Legion Post 88, the 2nd Company Governor’s Foot Guard and Hamden Elks Lodge 2224 have been soliciting and coordinating local fundraising efforts for both of these worthy Veterans charities.
