QU Men’s Ice Hockey Retains No. 1 Ranking In National Polls

The ranking marks the second consecutive week that the Bobcats have been voted as the top team in college hockey by coaches and national media.

 

The nationally top-ranked Quinnipiac men's ice hockey remained in the No. 1 spot in both national polls, as announced on Monday, receiving 34 of the 50 first-place votes in the USCHO.com poll and 26 of the 34 first place votes in the USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine poll.

The ranking marks the second consecutive week that the Bobcats have been voted as the top team in college hockey by coaches and national media. In addition, Quinnipiac also remains first in the PairWise Rankings, a system which mimics the NCAA selection committee's criteria for the seeding of the NCAA Tournament. The Bobcats have held the top spot in the PWRs since Jan. 19..

Quinnipiac saw its NCAA-leading 21-game unbeaten streak end on Friday when it fell to St. Lawrence, 2-1. The Bobcats responded on the following night with a 2-1 win against Clarkson. Additionally, Quinnipiac was awarded the Cleary Cup after clinching its first ECAC Hockey regular-season championship.

Quinnipiac will be the top seed in the upcoming ECAC Hockey Championship tournament and will received  a first round bye prior to hosting a best-of-three games ECAC Hockey Quarterfinals series on Mar. 15-17.

No. 1 Quinnipiac host No. 13 Yale in the 11th Annual Heroes Hat Game on Friday, Feb. 22 in an ECAC Hockey match-up to be nationally broadcast live on NBC Sports at 7:30 p.m. The Bobcats round-out a busy weekend with Senior Night on Saturday, Feb. 23 when Brown visits High Point Solutions Arena at 7 p.m.
