QU Women Fall to Georgia Tech 74-57 at Fun & Sun Classic

With the loss, Quinnipiac falls to 8-2 on the season.

Georgia Tech defeated the Quinnipiac women's basketball team 74-57 Saturday evening at the U.S. Century Arena.

Quinnipiac featured three players in double-figures led by junior Brittany McQuain, who finished with 17 points, nine rebounds and four steals. With the loss, Quinnipiac falls to 8-2 on the season while their ACC opponent improved to 5-6.

Fresh off a win against Big East foe St. John’s last week, Quinnipiac was once again challenged with another ‘Power Six’ opponent. This time, the Yellow Jackets’ front court proved to be too much for the Bobcats, leading to Tech’s third straight win.

McQuain battled underneath in a strong showing and finished with 17 points going 7-of-11 from the floor. Jasmine Martin added 15 points, all coming in the second half, while Felicia Barron added 10 points and four steals.

After falling behind early on in the game, McQuain and the Bobcats put together a 15-2 run to erase a 15 point deficit. The two teams went back-and-forth for the remainder of the stanza, leaving a mere 31-27 Yellow Jacket advantage at halftime.

However, Georgia Tech caught fire after the intermission and rattled off a 10-0 run over the first few minutes of the second half. The Yellow Jackets clung to their lead, an advantage that they would never relinquish. Georgia Tech guard Dawnn Maye led the way with 24 points, six rebounds and two assists in the win.

Rebounding was the difference in the game as Georgia Tech hauled in 54 rebounds compared to 32 from the Bobcats. Furthermore, 23 of its 54 rebounds were on the offensive end which resulted in 24 second chance points. GT outscored QU 38-28 in the paint.

Maria Napolitiano recorded her first collegiate points in a Bobcats uniform. She finished with five points and two rebounds in five minutes of action.

The Bobcats will face Northeastern in their final match of the Fun & Sun Classic on Sunday evening at the U.S. Century Bank Arena in Miami, Fla. Tip-off will be 4 p.m. This match up will mark the sixth meeting between the two programs as the Huskies hold a 1-4 record against the Bobcats.
