Rabinowitz Going to Bridgeport

The Hamden superintendent of schools has accepted the interim superintendent's position in Bridgeport, the Connecticut Post is reporting.

The Bridgeport Board of Education has selected Hamden Supt. of Schools Fran Rabinowitz as its interim superintendent as it searches for a permanent replacement.

The Connecticut Post reports that Rabinowitz will replace embattled Supt. Paul Vallas as interim superintendent. The Bridgeport superintendent battled to keep his job after the state determined that he didn't have the proper certification but has recently tendered his resignation. His final date in the district hasn't yet been determined.

Rabinowitz notified the Hamden school board last year that she intended to retire. She became Hamden's superintendent in 2007 after the death of former Supt. Alida Begina. Before that, she worked for the state Department of Education.

The Hamden Board of Education has been searching for a new superintendent for months. Rabinowitz, who couldn't be reached for comment Tuesday, told the Connecticut Post that the board is "close to picking a replacement."
