Sacred Heart Academy Seniors Become Graduates

Family, friends pack the school auditorium to watch the 115 seniors collect their diplomas.

Four years of hard work paid off for 115 Sacred Heart Academy seniors at graduation ceremonies held on the Benham Street campus Saturday morning.

Family and friends packed the Philip Paolella Jr. Recreational Center at the all-girls Catholic high school to watch the students become alumnae during the one-hour ceremony.

Ranking first in her class, Amanda Kelly, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Sean Kelly of Shelton, gave the valedictory address, while classmate Alexandra Rallo, daughter of Christopher Rallo and Jessica Kott of Hamden, delivered the salutatory address. Meghan Zwahlen, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Timothy Zwahlen of Fairfield, delivered the Graduate's Prayer. She ranked third in the class.

In the fall, Amanda will attend Brown University as a biology major; Alexandra will continue her studies at Georgetown and Meghan will enter the pre-med program at the University of Notre Dame.

Earlier in the week at the school's Honors Convocation, Austin Ferrara, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Louis Ferrara of Killingworth, delivered the welcome address to her class, and Megan Grammatico, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Grammatico of Wallingford, gave the convocation address. Megan is ranked fourth and Austin fifth in the class, and will study in the fall at Providence College and the University of Connecticut respectively.

The graduates also attended a Baccalaureate Liturgy Friday evening where Student Council president Lauren LaChance and Senior Class president Angela Corraro addressed their peers, and on Wednesday the seniors officially became alumnae at the annual Alumnae Induction ceremony.

Each one of the 115 graduates will be attending college in the fall, school officials said, and as a whole earned more than $8 million in merit and academic scholarships.
