Student Spotlight: Academic Achievements of Hamden Residents

Timothy Ibbotson-Sindelar, son of Roger Ibbotson and Jody Sindelar of Whitneyville and a graduate of Choate Rosemary Hall, was one of 296 members of Haverford College Class of 2013, 

Ibbotson-Sindelar received a bachelor’s degree in economics with a concentration in mathematical economics. His senior thesis, the culmination of the Haverford academic experience, is entitled, “The Monetary Value of Good College Presidents: Interims, new presidents, and long term presidents’ effect on giving to private universities and colleges.”

While studying at Haverford, Ibbotson-Sindelar was co-head of Eighth Dimension, Haverford’s Office of Community Service. He also worked as a teaching assistant in Haverford’s economics department.

Rebecca Aileen Black , daughter of Joel Black of Hamden, graduated from Saint Michael's College with a Bachelor of Arts, cum laude degree in English at the college's 106th commencement exercises held on the college campus May 12th.

The following local students were inducted into academic honor societies at Alvernia University this year.

Hannah Dorsch, a resident of Hamden majoring in Criminal Justice was inducted into Alpha Phi Sigma Honor Society and the St Thomas More Local Criminal Justice Honor Society..

Anirudh Sharma from Hamden received a Master of Business Administration degree at the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth graduate commencement on May 11.

Frank Maturo of Hamden was honored during Western New England University's 11th annual Student Media Festival. 

A junior majoring in Communication, Maturo received five awards at the event. His submission titled "Stuck On You" placed 1st in both the Music Video Jury Award and People's Choice Award categories. 

In addition, Maturo's submission titled "Recycling" placed 2nd in both the PSA/TV Commercial Jury Award and People's Choice Award categories. His submission titled "CAB Dinner Event" also received recognition as it placed 1st in the TV Reporting People's Choice Award category.

St. John's College is pleased to announce the graduation of Sophie Engel of Hamden, Connecticut on Saturday, May 18, 2013. Sophie's senior essay was entitled On Viewless Wings: An exploration of poetic meaning and allusions in John Keats' "Ode to a Nightingale."
