Student Spotlight: Awards and Accomplishments

Recent awards and graduations attained by Hamden residents.

 

Abeeda Mahwash of Hamden was recently inducted into the Gamma Rho chapter of Phi Sigma, Biological Sciences Academic Honor Society, during a recent campus ceremony at Quinnipiac University.

The chapter of the Phi Sigma promotes interest in research and fosters academic excellence in the biological sciences.

Aaron J. Cubells of Hamden received a bachelor of science degree in engineering and management, mathematics minor from Clarkson University on May 12, 2012.

Champlain College's 134th Commencement took place at Memorial Auditorium in Burlington on Saturday, May 5. Local students who received their degrees from Champlain College include:

  • Erica Viscio of Hamden, received a BS degree in Marketing with a possible specialization and/or minor.
  • Randall Archambeault of Hamden, received a BS degree in Multimedia and Graphic Design with a possible specialization and/or minor.

Katelyn Vaughan '12 of Hamden, majoring in social work at Eastern Connecticut State University, was inducted into the national social work honor society, Phi Alpha.

Bowdoin College held its annual Honors Day ceremony May 9, 2012. The following students from Hamden were recognized for their achievements:

Craig Comen, of Hamden, a member of the Bowdoin College Class of 2012, has been awarded the Sue Winchell Burnett Music Prize. Comen, majoring in Chemistry and Music. Comen is a graduate of Hamden High School.

Caleb Pershan, of Hamden, a member of the Bowdoin College Class of 2012, has been awarded the Philip Henry Brown Prize (Second Prize). Pershan, majoring in English and minoring in Gay and Lesbian Studies, is a graduate of Hopkins Grammar School.

Katelyn Vaughan '12 of Hamden, an Eastern Connecticut State University student, was inducted into the Phi Alpha Social Work Honor Society.

Russell Sherman of Hamden, graduated with a master's degree in Educational Technology from Eastern Connecticut State University.

Eastern Connecticut State University's 122nd Commencement took place at the XL Center in Hartford on May 15. In all, 1,230 undergraduates and 88 graduate students earned their degrees.

James Grimaldi of Hamden, CT, graduated with a degree in Sociology and Applied Social Relations .

James Annunziato of Hamden, CT, graduated with a degree in History and Social Science .

Matthew Banas of Hamden, CT, graduated with a degree in History and Social Science .

Andrew Bundock of Hamden, CT, graduated with a degree in Visual Arts .

Katelyn Vaughan of Hamden, CT, graduated cum laude with a degree in Social Work .

Stephanie Carroll of Hamden, CT, graduated with a degree in Sociology .

Carissa Laudano of Hamden, CT, graduated with a degree in Psychology .
