Superintendent Decisions Coming Soon

The Board of Education is planning for life with or without Superintendent Fran Rabinowitz.

Whether or not Supt. of Schools Fran Rabinowitz remains in Hamden for another year is up to her – and the Board of Education. At the end of the school year, both sides will come together and decide which route to take.

Chairman Michael D’Agostino said the board will wait for Rabinowitz’ decision on whether she wants to return or not. If she doesn’t want to come back, a summer search for superintendent will begin. She retired in January but came back at a per diem rate.

If she does opt to stay longer, the board will consider hiring her again, and D’Agostino indicated he’d be in favor of it for two reasons: he likes the work she does and the cost is right.

D’Agostino said that not paying the superintendent’s full salary and benefits saved $70,000 this year.

“As a practical matter, a new superintendent in Hamden is going to cost a lot of money,” he said.
