From Supt. of Schools Fran Rabinowitz, in response to a letter from George Levinson:
A couple of people brought the letter on substitute teachers to my attention today.
I checked the Kelly Services files to verify George Levinson's first statement. This concerned Mr. Levinson's report about his friend Ray substituting in Hamden schools on the first day of school for a teacher who wished to bring her own child to school.
There were two teachers out on the first day of school — both delivered babies over the summer and were on maternity leave. There were two other substitutes on the first day. They were hired for teachers who resigned their positions the week before school opened for personal reasons and new teachers had not yet been hired.
There was no teacher listed in the files as absent in Hamden because she took her child to school and no one with the first name of Ray substituted in our schools on the first day of school.
I regret that incorrect information is being posted on Hamden Patch and I am now checking on the veracity of the rest of the information reported by George Levinson.
