Honors for QU Goalie Hartzell

Quinnipiac's Eric Hartzell Named Hogan Hockey/ECAC Hockey Goalie of the Month.

 

Quinnipiac senior Eric Hartzell has been named the Hogan Hockey/ECAC Hockey Goalie of the Month for November, as announced by ECAC Hockey on Monday, Dec. 3, 2012.

Senior Jeremy Langlois (Tempe, Ariz.) was also nominated for Player of the Month while freshman Travis St. Denis (Trail, British Columbia) was nominated for Rookie of the Month.

Hartzell went undefeated for the month, going 6-0-1 with a .933 save percentage and a 1.27 goals-against average. He led the first-place Bobcats with a 5-0-0 record in ECAC Hockey play with a .915 save percentage and a 1.39 goals-against average. In seven games for the month, Hartzell never allowed more than two goals.  

The native of White Bear Lake, Minn. posted two shutouts to push his career to eight, tied for second with Jamie Holden '05 and trailing Quinnipiac's all-time leader, Bud Fisher '07, with nine.

Among Hartzell's most impressive games for the month were a 22-save outing against then-ranked No. 4/4 Cornell in a 4-1 win and also a 20-save performance in a 4-0 shutout of No. 7/8 Union. Hartzell also had a November-best 24 saves in a 2-0 shutout against Hockey East foe Providence College and 27 saves in a 2-2 tie against UMass. 

Quinnipiac, recently ranked No. 11 in the USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine Poll and 13th in the USCHO.com Division I Poll, returns to action this weekend with a pair of ECAC Hockey match-ups against Princeton. Quinnipiac's tilt against the Tigers on Friday, Dec. 7 at High Point Solutions Arena at the TD Bank Sports Center can be seen live on New England Sports Network (NESN) at 7 p.m. The Bobcats will then head to historic Hobey Baker Memorial Rink to face Princeton on Saturday, Dec. 8 at 4 p.m.
