No. 16 Quinnipiac Men's Ice Hockey Blanks No. 7/8 Union, 4-0

The nationally-ranked No. 16 Quinnipiac men’s ice hockey team defeated No. 7/8 Union, 4-0, in an ECAC Hockey match-up at Messa Rink. With the win, Quinnipiac remains perfect through its first five ECAC Hockey games at 5-0-0 while they also improve to 5-0-0 on the year. Additionally, the Bobcats run their unbeaten streak to seven games, 6-0-1, and are now 4-0-0 against ranked opponents this season. 

The win is Quinnipiac’s first shutout against a ranked opponent since Mar. 12, 2011 when the Bobcats’ blanked then-No. 9 Cornell, 1-0, in the ECAC Hockey Quarterfinals. Quinnipiac also snaps a six-game winless streak against Union, dating back to the longest game in NCAA Division I history on March 12, 2010, a 3-2, five-overtime win against the Dutchmen at Messa Rink.

Jeremy Langlois (Tempe, Ariz.) factored into all three Quinnipiac goals, sandwiching an assist on Travis St. Denis’ goal between two of his own. He becomes the 10th player in Quinnipiac’s Division I history and 17th all-time to score 50 goals for his career. In addition, Langlois is now one of two active NCAA Division I men’s ice hockey players, along with Bemidji State’s Jordan George, with 50 career goals. He now has a team-high seven goals for the year.

Russell Goodman (Saskatoon, Saskatchewan) had a career-high three assists in the game while Ben Arnt (Oakdale, Minn.) also scored for the Bobcats. Zach Davies (Smither, British Columbia), Mike Dalhuisen (Nymegen, Holland) and Loren Barron all had assists.

Quinnipiac goalie Eric Hartzell (White Bear Lake, Minn.) moves ahead of Jamie Holden’05 for sole possession of second place with his eighth career shutout. 

Langlois gave Quinnipiac the lead with less than five minutes to play in the second period. Goodman picked up the puck in the corner to Union goalie Troy Grosenick’s right and carried it up the wall. Goodman handed it off to Barron to skated behind the goal line before finding Langlois in the slot. The senior’s one-timer beat Grosenick to give Quinnipiac a one-goal lead.

Less than two minutes later, it was Langlois with the assist on St. Denis’ third goal of the year. Davies held the puck at the point before feeding Langlois in the face-off circle. Langlois was denied by Grosenick but St. Denis grabbed the puck in the slot and flipped it over Grosenick’s right shoulder to give Quinnipac a 2-0 lead.

Langlois' third goal of the night came with less than 10 minutes to play in regulation when he tipped a shot by Mike Dalhuisen (Nymegen, Holland), off a one-timer from Goodman, in front of Grosenick to give Quinnipiac a three-goal lead. Arnt added his second goal of the year when he cleaned up a rebound off a blast from Goodman and deposited the puck past Grosenick. Harvey was also credited with his team-leading 10th assist of the year. 

The No. 16 Bobcats return to action on Saturday, Dec. 1 when they travel to Troy, N.Y. to take on Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute at 7 p.m. at Houston Field House.
