QU Shuts Out Yale

Quinnipiac senior goalie Eric Hartzell recorded his program-record 10th career shutout in a 3-0 win against Yale in the ECAC Hockey Tournament Consolation Game at Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City, N.J. Quinnipiac improves to 27-7-4 overall while Yale goes to 18-12-3.   

Hartzell's 30-save performance led Quinnipiac to the win in the ECAC Hockey Tournament's Third-Place game and also gave the league's Player and Goalie of the year his 27th win of the year. Hartzell's 10th career shutout passes Bud Fisher '09, who had nine for his career. It is also Hartzell's fifth of the season.Kevin Bui scored the Bobcats' third goal of the game while also setting up Cory Hibbeler for his first career multiple-point game. Bryce Van Brabant also scored for Quinnipiac. 

Yale appeared to take the lead midway through the first period when Kenny Agostino took on shot on the Quinnipiac goal from below the goal line. Quinnipiac's Hartzell pounced on the puck, while Agostino celebrated as if he scored. The no-goal ruling on the ice stood after a video review.

Van Brabant's goal came at the 4:34 mark of the second period. A broken clearing-pass by Yale left the puck loose between the face-off circles. Van Brabant picked up the puck and fired on Malcolm, beating Yale's goalie, stick-side, to the give Quinnipiac a 1-0 lead. The goal was Van Brabant's fifth of the season.

Towards the end of the second period, Yale's Jesse Root took an odd-angle shot from between the face-off circle and the goal line that snuck behind Hartzell and appeared to find the back of the net, as the goal became unhinged. After another, lengthy, review, officials agreed that the net moved before the puck entered it.

Coming out of the second intermission, Hibbeler scored less than three minutes into the second period. Hibbeler originally gave the puck to Bui, who fired on Malcolm from the slot. Malcolm knocked the puck down, leaving it loose in front of Yale's goal. Hibbeler picked it up, moving to Malcolm's right, spun and banged the puck in off the far post for his sixth goal of the year to give Quinnipiac a two-goal lead, 2-0.

Bui added his third goal of the season with less than a minute to play when he picked off a pass in the Bulldogs defensive zone and fired the puck past Malcolm to give Quinnipiac a 3-0 lead. 

Quinnipiac awaits the seeding for the upcoming NCAA Tournament, set to be announced on the 2013 NCAA Tournament Selection Show on ESPN on Sunday, Mar. 24 at 9 p.m.
