QU Women Cruises Past Wagner, 74-56

The win means the Quinnipiac Women’s Basketball team remains unbeaten in conference play.

Felicia Barron scored a game-high 16 points and Quinnipiac converted 19 offensive rebounds into 19 second chance points helping the women's basketball team to a 74-56 victory at Wagner College on Saturday afternoon.

With the win, the Bobcats improve 11-4 at the Spiro Sports Center, but more importantly improve to 18-2 overall and remain perfect in NEC competition (9-0).

Barron collected her 16 points on 6-of-11 shooting which included four field goals from downtown. Ellen Cannon also nabbed double-digits with 10 points and three rebounds, while Nikoline Ostergaard added nine points, five rebounds, two assists and a steal. Jasmine Martin finished with eight points and three steals, while Lisa Lebak and Maria Napolitiano each had six points.

Quinnipiac led from the opening whistle, but Wagner closed the gap to within two points, 29-27, after a Laura Amorosa three-pointer with 3:29 remaining in the first half. The Bobcats responded nicely however, as Napolitiano knocked down a three of her own to start a 14-4 run to close out the stanza. Ostergaard capped off the rally with two seconds left, sending the Bobcats into the locker room with a 43-31 lead.

After the break, Quinnipiac broke the game open with a 16-2 run midway through the second half. Cannon ignited the charge with a three from the wing at the 15:16 mark and Barron capped off the run with a fast-break layup with just less than 10 minutes to play. Quinnipiac held the Seahawks 0-of-6 from the floor and forced seven turnovers during the span. The Bobcats held onto their substantial lead for the remainder of the contest.

Quinnipiac once again turned defense into offense, forcing 23 turnovers – resulting in 24 points on the other end. The Bobcats dominated the glass, 46-33, holding the Seahawks to just four second chance points on five offensive rebounds. Quinnipiac also dished out 23 assists, a season-best in conference play, with a team-best coming from Gillian Abshire.

Quinnipiac improved to 22-6 all-time against the Seahawks and has 18 wins in their last 19 games. This also included a 11-1 mark when playing away from home.

The Bobcats are back in action against Mount St. Mary's on Monday night in Emmitsburg, Md. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. at the Knott Arena. The Mount is off to a 9-10 start and is 5-3 in NEC action.

Check out the CVS parking lot when the High School lets out. I've seen "Daddy" picking upRead More little "Johnny" in a Town owned car. We know it was tax money paying for the gas, just hope it was lunch time. I thought the Town was cracking down on inappropriate use of vehicles. I hope not many have use of a car on Sunday, and sure hope they were on Town duty. Yes, Angela, sadly you are right, nothing will change, but there is always a chance maybe someone will listen.

CORRUPTION- IS MORE LIKE IT. GRAFT, UNLESS YOU CHANGE YOUR VOTING HABITS - AS ENSTEIN SAID- DOINGRead More THE SAME THING OVER AND OVER AND EXPECTING A DIFFERENT RESULT IS INSANITY. THAT IS THE VOTING HERE IN HAMDEN- INSANE THAT PEOPLE CONTINUE TO VOTE DEMOCRATIC AND EXPECT THINGS TO CHANGE. If you notice all cities with the democratic party in charge in the U.S. has the same problems. Start with New Haven, Hamden, New York, Chicago, Los Angeles, Atlanta, New Orleans, they all have the same problems. Welfare, union legacy costs, taxation, North Haven seems to be run better, must check that out. Don't know if that is a democrat or not.
