Yet another record-breaking run highlighted the Quinnipiac women's indoor track effort at the Dartmouth Classic on Saturday as freshman Alea Simons became the first Bobcat to run a sub-eight second 60m dash, crossing the line at 7.95 seconds.
Simons' run on Saturday moves the Bobcats' season total to 14 school records broken through six meets as the team now prepares for the Northeast Conference Championships next weekend.
"I saw a lot of great running today," said Quinnipiac women's indoor track head coach Carolyn Martin. "We hit a lot of individual goals going into the weekend and we are all very excited with the momentum carrying us into the conference championship."
The time posted by Simons is the fourth time this season she has broken the school record in the 60m dash but her time this weekend helped earn her a spot in the New England Championships on Feb. 22 in the same event. Her time at Dartmouth was good for third place in the finals.
One of the more impressive one mile run times was turned in by freshman Tracy Campbell on Saturday. Campbell earned an impressive third place result out of 27 competitors as her time of 5:09.55 was the fastest result of all seven Bobcats racing in the one mile event. Junior Brianna Faust was right behind Campbell as she crossed the line in sixth position with a time of 5:12.21.
Freshman Medinah Nabadduka picked up her first ever victory in the 500m as she finished with a time of 1:20.75. Fellow teammate senior Hannah Donadio nearly came away with the first place result as her time of 1:20.92 was fractions of a second behind Nabadduka.
Sophomore Katy Petrie turned in an impressive 2:22.51 in just her second run in the 800m of her career. The time earned her a seventh place finish out of 41 other runners in the same event.
Quinnipiac dominated the 1000m as junior Jessica Soja and senior Rachel Morelli crossed the line in second and third place, respectively. The both ran near identical times of 2:59.18 for Soja and 2:59.23 for Morelli.
The second Bobcat victory of the day came off the feet of senior Andrea Szarkowicz, who finished the 3000m in first place with a time of 10:35.19.
The two Quinnipiac relay teams each earned a second place finish in the 4 x 200m and 4 x 400m at Dartmouth. The tandem of sophomore Rebecca Stabile, along with freshmen Nadia Jarvis, Shameal Samuels and Kristen Ulrich, combined for a time of 1:45.97 in the 4 x 200m. Later in the afternoon the team of junior Samantha Stabile, Rebecca Stabile, Samuels and Ulrich all reached a time of 4:04.35 in the 4 x 400m.
In other women's indoor track action from Friday night, the Bobcats placed a team at the Giegengack Invitational hosted by Yale. Quinnipiac's senior Rebecca White, graduate student Morgan Roche, Samuels and Ulrich officially qualified for the ECAC Championships in March in the distance medley relay. The foursome ran a 12:03 flat which was good enough to qualify for the regional championship.
The Bobcats will now compete in the NEC Championships next weekend from Feb. 9-10 where the team will look to improve on their ninth place result last season. The event will take place in Landover, Md. with trials filling up most of Saturday and then the finals on Sunday, Feb. 10.
