SHA Selected For CIAC Michaels Achievement Cup

Sacred Heart Academy Principal Sr. Maureen Flynn, ASCJ and Athletic Director George Bedocs have been notified that the Academy has been selected as a CIAC Michaels Achievement Cup recipient for its athletic accomplishments during the 2012-13 school year.

The Michaels Cup, under the jurisdiction of the CIAC, recognizes schools that continually provide exemplary athletic programs. “Exemplary” is defined as athletic participation, academic success, equitable opportunities, trained and professional personnel, chemical – free programs and environment, athletic achievement and a clear sense of sportsmanship marked by high ethical and moral standards.

Sacred Heart finished first in the “SS” classification.  First place recipients in each classification are eligible for the “Overall Recipient Award” which is considered to be the Heisman Trophy for high school sports programs.  The achievement cup will be presented on November 21 at the Aqua Turf when the overall recipient will also be announced.

The athletic teams at Sacred Heart Academy face rigorous competition from other high schools in the Southern Connecticut Conference (SCC).  Fall sports include Cross Country, Field Hockey, Soccer, Swimming & Diving, Volleyball, and Cheerleading.  In the winter Basketball, Indoor Track, and Cheerleading and in the spring – Golf, Softball, Lacrosse, Tennis, and Track & Field are offered.  Athletes develop skills while learning the importance of team play, participation, leadership and excellence in competition.
