Elks Mark Flag Day

Hamden Elks Lodge #2224 led ceremonies Thursday at the Hamden Veteran's Memorial.

The Hamden Elks Lodge #2224 conducted its annual Flag Day Ceremony Thursday at the Hamden Veterans’ Memorial.

The event included officers of Hamden Lodge; Local Girl Scout Troops 60761 and 60402, and Boy Scout Troop 610, presenting the history of our nation’s flag with replicas of each historical flag, then, demonstrating the flag folding ceremony with members of The Governor’s Foot Guard as color guard and Hamden Mayor Scott Jackson as guest speaker.

The history of our nation's military endeavors in defense of liberty was recited to music.

Elks Lodges across the nation and its territories are mandated to celebrate Flag Day, which was initiated by the National Elks. The Hamden Elks are dedicated to patriotism and service to hospitalized veterans, as well as youth scholarship, sports and drug prevention programs.
