Hamden CERT: People Helping People

Hamden Community Emergency Response Team is offering a Basic Training Course beginning April 26.

 

Hamden Community Emergency Response Team will be conducting a seven-week Basic Training Course for six weeks beginning April 26 at Hamden Middle School, 2623 Dixwell Ave.

The training will be consistent with the National CERT Training Program, which will consist of Emergency Preparedness, Situation Awareness, Basic First Aid, Use of Fire Extinguishers, Light Search & Rescue and Terrorism Awareness.

All applications must be picked up at the Office of the Fire Chief at 2750 Dixwell Ave., weekdays between 8:30 a.m. and 4 p.m. All applicants must be at least 18 years of age and be committed to volunteering their time and assisting the town of Hamden with emergency support in time of need and assistance in many of the town’s public pre-planned community events throughout the year. 

All applications must be received at the Fire Chief’s Office by Friday, April 20th at 2:00pm.

A CERT member is a person who is trained to prepare for and respond after a disaster in their neighborhood. A group of 10 or more members of a neighborhood, apartment complex, business, or similar residential area comprise a team.

Membership is open to anyone who is interested in helping his or her neighborhood prepare for a disaster and provide assistance afterward. Team training is available even if they are not affiliated with a team.
