This Week in Hamden: Lots of Meetings and a Book Signing at Legal Grounds

Here's what's going on in Hamden this week.


Today is Monday, Nov. 11, Veteran's Day. Municipal offices and schools are closed. Here's what's going on in Hamden this week:

— Music Haven students and their teachers, the Haven String Quartet, perform a free lunchtime concert in the Community Living Center at the West Haven Veteran's Administration Hospital. Admission is free. The VA Healthcare Community Care Living Center (Bldg. 2, 3rd floor) is at 950 Campbell Ave. in West Haven.

— On Tuesday, the Legislative Council holds its regular monthly meeting at 7 p.m. in the auditorium at Memorial Town Hall, 2372 Whitney Ave.

— Also on Tuesday, the Board of Education meets Tuesday at 7 p.m. at Central Office, An hour before that, the Finance Committee will meet in the same space at 60 Putnam Ave.

— In addition, the Planning and Zoning Commission meets Tuesday at 7 p.m. in Thornton Wilder Auditorium at Miller Memorial Library. The commission is scheduled to undertake its annual review of Quinnipiac University enrollment, housing and parking plan. Before that meeting, the commission will meet at 6 p.m. to discuss possible changes to the Planning & Zoning Commission By-Laws and at 6:45 p.m. to discuss the sale of town-owned property at 496 Newhall St. to theHamden Economic Development Corporation.

— Wednesday's meetings include the Retirement Board, which meets at 3 p.m. in the Government Center's third-floor conference room; the Fire Commission, which meets in the same location at 6 p.m.; the Traffic Commission, which meets at 6 p.m. in the Hamden Senior Center Activity Room and the Police Commission, which meets in that location after the Traffic Commission.

— Also on Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. the Ridge Hill PTA hold its monthly meeting at the school at 120 Carew Road. All Ridge Hill School parents, teachers, staff, students, and other community members are welcome. Refreshments will be served. 

— On Friday at 7 p.m. at Legal Grounds, 1235 Whitney Ave., Susan Elderkin, author of "The Novel Cure," will discuss reading as a healing experience. She will also be available to autograph copies of her book.
