Miller Memorial Library is the town's flagship library branch located in the center of town across from the old…More Memorial Town Hall and police department. It is one of three library facilities and is the largest of the three. It's mission is to "improve the quality of life and meet the informational, educational and cultural interests of the entire Hamden community."
Almost 400,000 items are circulated each year at the Miller branch alone, which boasts almost 200,000 books, paperbacks and magazines and 21,101 DVDs, CDs and audio cassettes.
The library hosts almost 500 programs a year. Almost 50,000 people hold library cards.
The library is the home of Thornton Wilder Hall and Thornton Wilder Study, honoring the playwright and Hamden resident. A writing competition is held in his honor every year for high school students by the Friends of the Hamden Library.
