Hamden Government Center
2750 Dixwell Ave, Hamden, CT 06518
The hub of activity that keep the town of Hamden operating is located at the Government Center at the corner of DixwellMore and Evergreen avenues. Under Former Mayor Carl Amento, offices were moved to the more modern facility from Memorial Town Hall, which had grown too small to house all of the town offices. The Government Center offers ample parking, in contrast to the old Town Hall, where parking was always at a premium. The new office facility also is handicapped accessible. Three floors of offices house everything from the Tax Collector to the Planning and Zoning Department to the Town Clerk. Mayor Scott Jackson -- the state's first African-American mayor -- is the current head of town government.
Hamden Police Department
2900 Dixwell Ave, Hamden, CT 06518

For decades the Hamden Police Department has occupied two buildings next to the Memorial Town Hall on Dixwell Avenue.More But soon Memorial Town Hall will become the police department as renovations are underway to transform it to a modern police facility. It is a homecoming of sorts because at one time the Police Department was located in the basement of the building.

After Town Hall offices moved to the new Government Center at the intersection of Evergreen and Dixwell avenues, talk turned to what would happen to the old Town Hall, which is on the National Register of Historic Places. After much discussion the Legislative Council in 2009 voted to renovate it into a much-needed Police Headquarters. Those renovations include the addition of a parking garage, alleviating a long-standing parking problem on the site.

The department has about 107 sworn officers, 24 civilian staff and 22 crossing guards.
