Board of Education: Democrat M. Arturo Perez-Cabello

Hamden Patch offered the candidates the opportunity to state their case for the voters. Here's what Democratic Board of Education candidate M. Arturo Perez-Cabello has to say.

My name is Miguel Arturo Perez-Cabello. Most people know me as Arturo so I am running under the name: M. Arturo Perez-Cabello. I am running as a Democrat for a four year position with the Board of Education.

My wife and I have lived in Hamden for almost 10 years. I see my running for office as a continuation of my work in the community. Since I was a child my parents taught me the value of helping others and encouraged me to make a positive contribution to society.

I have been a member of the Whitneyville Civic Association (WCA) in Hamden for many years and until recently I served as Vice President. At the WCA I have worked to strengthen Hamden’s library system, improve traffic and public safety, and maintain communication with Town Hall.

Since my daughter started school two years ago, my wife and I became involved with the Ridge Hill PTA and have worked with other great families and teachers to improve the school and unleash its potential. I encourage you to visit the Ridge Hill Discovery Garden.

When the opportunity to run for a BOE position emerged, I realized that the work of this body was very much connected to the work I have been doing. As a father and taxpayer I want to do my part to ensure that our Public School system is strengthened and improved.

I firmly believe that public schools are one of the most important pillars of a community’s social, economic and fiscal health so it is important to preserve and enhance the quality of public education.
